The Positive Image Award

The Board is delighted to announce that for a second time, Matt Lucas has been selected for a positive image award.

Matt Lucas winner of Positive Image AwardThe actor and comedian won the full support of the Board for his various entertainment achievements and beat BBC Breakfast presenter Natasha Kaplinsky and Tory Leader Michael Howard to the coveted award.

“When we were looking at who in the community has done much to help others both inside and outside the community, it was obvious that this should go to Matt,” said Board president Harry Greenberg. “With his involvement in Comic Relief, Matt is giving much back to others.”

Mr Lucas said: “I was lucky enough to win this once, but twice is amazing. I just want to say thanks to everyone at the Board who voted. I know there was some tough competition out there. Wow, this month people see me as much better that Michael and Natasha. I’m really flattered.”

Since 1978, the Board has been giving out the monthly which celebrates the achievements that Jewish people make in Britain. Previous winners have included: Nigella Lawson, Lionel Blair, Lady Sarah Levinson, Bernie Winters, Michael Winner, Caprice and Howard Rosen.

The Postive Image Award

The Board is delighted to reveal that Matt Lucas has been selected for December’s Positive Image Award at the weekly Guardians meeting of Sunday 9 January 2005.

Matt LucasMr Lucas, a member of South West Ealing synagogue is the first Jewish man under the age of 82 to receive the honour which comes with a certificate and gift voucher from John Lewis worth £250.

“December was a great month for Matt with him winning a best comedy award as well as winning fans for his TV show Little Britain,” said Board president Harry Greenberg. “It seems only fitting that the community recognises Matt’s talent.”

A spokesman for Mr Lucas said:

“Matt is delighted that Britain’s three million Jews have all agreed he was the best Jew in the country during the month of December. He certainly hopes to be a good Jew in other months.”

The Postive Image Award

After much deliberation, the Board is delighted to announce that Rachel Stevens, a popular entertainer has been selected for November’s Postive Image Award which was revealed at the weekly Guardians session meeting on Sunday 5 December 2004.

Rachel Stevens winner of the November Positive Image AwardRachel, from north London is better known among the younger generation for her musical prowess being a founder member of S-Club 7 as well as a successful singer and actress in her own right.

She was nominated by Guardian representative Lloyd Goldman and seconded by Emily Fox.

The awards recognise a member of the community who has either been successful or has made a positive contribution towards Jewish life. Rachel has fulfilled both and has had hit after hit.

Board President Harry Greenberg said: “My fellow Guardians are delighted at the wonderful work that Rachel does. Last month saw her as the only Jewish performer on the Band Aid singer. Rachel has constantly shown herself as a supporter of tzedakah being involved with numerous fund raising events.

Earlier this year Rachel had a starring role in the wonderful British Jewish comedy Suzie Gold which was officially endorsed by the Board.

This year has possibly been the most successful for Rachel, a great several, many top chart hits and her work with charity.

We strongly endorse and support the work of Rachel and urge our three million strong community to fellow our lead.”

As well getting a certificate and £100 John Lewis gift voucher, Rachel will be entitled to a VIP ticket to the Board’s annual dinner and dance ball. The next one is October 2005.

December 2004 award will be announced the first week of January 2005.
